Karen Marie Ørsted (born in Odense, Denmark in 1989) better known as MØ, is a Danish singer and songwriter. In Copenhagen, Denmark 2013, she was recognized as P3s Uundgåelige (P3 Unavoidable), a list of rising artists Danish radio station DR P3. She is signed to Sony Music. MØ's first live television appearance was during Danish P3 Guld Awards on 27 March 2013 where she sang her hit "Pilgrim". MØ, whose name means "maiden" or "virgin" in Danish, has been compared to electro-pop vocalists such as Grimes, Purity Ring, and Twin Shadow.
MØ's debut single "Glass" was released in early 2013, some time after the release of the teaser song "Maiden" was released on 2 May 2012. The second single, "Pilgrim" was initially released on limited-edition 7" vinyl single through Turntable Kitchen's Pairings Box, with "Maiden" appearing on the B-side. "Pilgrim" was MØ's first song to chart on the Danish Singles chart, peaking at number 11. "Glass", "Pilgrim" and "Maiden" all got remixed for a remix EP, simply titled Remixes, released on 12 April 2013. Following the releases of the singles "Waste of Time" and "XXX 88" featuring Diplo, MØ released her debut EP titled Bikini Daze EP. None of the previously released singles, except "XXX 88" appeared on the EP. The EP charted on the US Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart, peaking at number 11. MØ also provided vocals for the song "Dear Boy", which appeared on Swedish DJ and producer Avicii's debut album True and "Let The Youth Go Mad" which appeared on the Lifestyle Mixtape by the Broke.
In 2014, MØ released three singles ("Don't Wanna Dance", a cover of the Spice Girls song "Say You'll Be There" and "Walk This Way"). On 24 March that year, her debut album No Mythologies to Follow was released. The standard edition included all the singles, excluding "Say You'll Be There" which became a iTunes exclusive, that MØ had released until that point. It also included four brand new tracks, "Maiden" and "Never Wanna Know", the latter having already been released on the Bikini Daze EP. The deluxe version included four new songs plus slower versions of other songs on the album (namely "Fire Rides", "Dust Is Gone", "Slow Love" and "The Sea"). The iTunes deluxe version included the previously mentioned Spice Girls cover and also the MS MR remix of "Pilgrim". The original version of "The Sea" was also featured on the soundtrack for the Danish dramatic horror mystery film When Animals Dream. MØ collaborated with two artists during 2014: she first sang along with Swedish singer Elliphant on the song called "One More" and then she sang the chorus for the Australian rapper Iggy Azalea's single "Beg For It". The latter became her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 27. On 30 December 2014, MØ released a new song titled "New Year's Eve".
Not much was released in 2015, though MØ had her biggest hit to date that year. "Lean On", a song produced by MØ's frequent collaborator Diplo's dancehall project Major Lazer and DJ Snake, featured MØ's vocals. The song topped several charts around the world, including the Danish Singles chart and it also topped several year-ends charts for 2015. Another collaboration between MØ and Major Lazer (a cover of "Lost" by Frank Ocean") was released later that year, however it didn't chart anywhere. 'Read more on Last.fm'.
